FAQ
Do I need an appointment to be seen at MedVet?
An appointment is highly recommended to see one of our veterinary specialty departments. Emergencies are on a walk-in basis. If possible, please call in advance of your emergency visit to let us know you are coming. We will be on standby to assist you in any way we can upon your arrival.
How do I make an appointment?
Please call our main line (614) 846-5800 and ask to speak with the Scheduling Coordinator in the department you have either been referred to or are interested in seeing. Our Scheduling Coordinators can answer many of your questions including directions to our facility, generalized cost estimates, questions about our facilities, staff and doctors.
Why would I be referred to MedVet?
Your primary veterinarian will refer you and your pet to MedVet if they feel it is necessary for your pet to have more extensive testing, diagnostic procedures or treatments that they may not offer.
Will my veterinarian be updated?
We believe that your family veterinarian plays a very intricate part in your pet’s overall healthcare. We update veterinarians on the day of arrival at our facility. If your pet requires an extended stay, we will update your doctor throughout your pet’s stay. We also fax any paperwork we send home with you and all of our diagnostic testing results.
What is a Veterinary Specialist?
A Veterinary Specialist is a veterinarian who has completed their four years of schooling in a veterinary program and then completed an additional 3-4 years of training in an internship and residency program. To become board-certified in their area of expertise they must also complete specified training, research, scientific publications and extensive examinations.
Can MedVet be my primary veterinary clinic?
MedVet offers only specialty and emergency care. To effectively manage your pet’s health we work directly with your primary veterinarian on a referral basis. MedVet does not provide the preventative care that your primary veterinarian offers.
Do I need a referral to be seen at MedVet?
We believe strongly in a team approach to your pet’s health. While referrals are not always necessary, you should discuss your interest in coming to MedVet with your primary veterinarian.
Emergency situations do not always allow time for discussion with your primary veterinarian. We recommend coming in immediately if you feel your pet needs to be seen. Our emergency service can direct you to the appropriate specialty department or refer you back to your primary veterinarian once the immediate needs are addressed.

What costs will I incur?
It is difficult to estimate the cost of your pet’s evaluation before they are seen. While there is an initial consultation fee, an itemized estimate will be provided for you prior to any additional diagnostic tests being performed.
Payment is due in full as services are rendered. Payments can be made with cash, check, debit card, MasterCard, Visa, American Express or Discover.
Special financing is available through an independent company, which allows for payment over 3 months without any interest charges for qualified clients.
What will I need to bring with me?
Please bring any previous medical history on your pet, including radiographs and any diagnostic testing. Your veterinarian can fax any pertinent paperwork to the main fax line at (614) 846-5803. Please have them fax it attention to the department you are seeing. This allows us to get a complete medical background and avoid any duplication in the treatment process.
Click here to be redirected to the Forms section where we ask that you fill out the “client registration” and “patient information and medical history” forms. Bring these forms in with you to help expedite the check-in process.
What should I expect at my first visit to MedVet?
The doctors and staff will review all information which has been either faxed prior to your arrival or that you have brought with you. After reviewing the information the doctor and staff will ask you some questions regarding your pet’s condition. The doctor will perform a physical exam of your pet. After examining your pet the doctor will recommend a care plan. At this time an estimate will be generated and discussed with you along with the care plan. If diagnostic testing or procedures are to be performed we may ask for your pet to remain with us for the day.
